Stage IV Cancer is a most serious
What happens when the progresses to Stage IV Cancer? Is it the most serious stage of cancer? Is there still hope?
The answer is yes. There is still many options to consider and still hope. ‘Staging of Cancer‘ is based primarily on what we know about the ways and rates at which different cancers progress and refers to rating the severity of cancer. When giving a diagnosis of ‘stage of cancer‘, the doctors will take into consideration where and how large tumors are, the types of tumors and how much any cancer has spread, among other factors.
Stage O Cancer is called carcinoma in situ, meaning that the cancer has not spread beyond the layer of cells in which it originated. While a cancer caught in Stage 0 holds an excellent prognosis for remission with proper treatment. Cancers that are classified as being in stages 1, 2, or 3 will be more extensive and potentially require longer periods or more invasive of treatment. Stage 4 cancer is one that has spread to organ systems or other organs and require immediate action and very aggressive. Stage 4 cancers treatment essentially are the same as for the other stages, but surgical intervention may be more extensive or medications may be given in larger doses.

Stage IV Cancer Treatment

Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment both work in similar ways, in that they use different substances or physical means of destroying cancer cells. To help slow or stop the spread of cancer cells to other areas of the body, these treatments may also be used. Radiation may be administered through the use of X-rays, implants or even injected into the body. Chemotherapy also introduces substances that are toxic to cancer cells into the body. Both of these treatments can be very effective, but carry with them potentially uncomfortable and serious side effects.
Chemotherapy or Radiation side effects can include nausea, anemia and vomiting, loss of appetite and extreme fatigue. Some patients, as a result of the destruction of healthy body cells, also experience hair loss. These treatments can making patients more susceptible to infections and also leave the body’s immune system somewhat depressed.
Other treatments for Stage IV cancer can include surgical interventions, which attempt to remove cancerous tissue while leaving as much of the surrounding healthy tissue intact as possible. A number of patients, particularly those who are told that their cancer is terminal or incurable, have begun turning to alternative and natural therapies as either their primary means of treatment, or an adjunct to medical means.
