The actual cancer news actuality that twice weekly acupuncture treatments relieve symptoms of xerostomia. Xerostomia defines severe dry mouth and affects particularly patients on radiation for head and neck cancer. This finding is based on the current online issue of Head and Neck. The observation was made by researchers from The university of Texas M.D Anderson Cancer Center. Severe dry mouth is a condition that develops after salivary glands have come across repeated doses of therapeutic radiation.

All those who have cancers of the neck normally receive large cumulative doses rendering the salivary glands is not capable of producing adequate saliva, said Mark S. Chambers, M.S, D.M.D, a professor in the department of Dental Oncology. The twice weekly acupuncture treatments showed significant improvements in symptoms.

The latest cancer news also says that results from a building study of workers at plants that produce formaldehyde always show a potential connection between formaldehyde exposure and death from cancers of the blood and the lymphatic system especially myeloid leukemia. The report by researchers at the National Cancer Institute offers an additional 10 years of follow-up data that supports previous findings on the same study. The report appeared online on the 12th of May 2009 and in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute on the 20th of May 2009.

Formaldehyde is traditionally used in industries and can serve as a preservative as well as a disinfectant. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies formaldehyde as a human carcinogen and is affiliated with nasopharyngeal cancer.
